Mandatory Information Program (MIP)

The Mediation Centre is responsible for providing a Mandatory Information Program to all family court clients in Simcoe County and the District of Muskoka.  The Ministry of Attorney General has provided all family court sites with a script that we must follow.  Therefore you could attend any MIP session across the province and it will be the same information. This program is approximately one and a half hours long.

The sessions are intended to provide relevant information and assist the parties in being better prepared for court and education on helping children of all ages cope, adapt and move forward.

Starting April 2011 all new applicants and respondents  must attend a MIP session.  You will be given a specific date for your attendance at the time you file your application and the respondent will receive their date with the service of their material.  If you can not attend on the date given to you by the court staff you may complete the program online here, or call the Family Law and Information Centre: Simcoe County 705-739-6446 or District of Muskoka 705-645-8793 to reschedule before your first appearance date.

If there is a possibility that in the future you may need to attend family court you can attend the MIP (or complete it online) and receive a certificate that can be filed at the time you initiate your court documents.  That way you will have proof of attendance and speed up your court process. There is no cost, but if you have not started a court action you must register in advance at the Family Law and Information Centre:  Simcoe County 705 739-6446 or District of Muskoka 705-645-8793 ext 235 to attend a session in person or complete the program online.
